WHITE OTTER MAKES IT EASY
These are some of the great river trips in North America. A private permit is a chance to share a personal adventure with friends doing it your way. However, there are many problems to overcome. Getting commitments from fellow boaters, securing equipment, planning meals, rendezvous, and shuttle logistics are but a few. Let WHITE OTTER help with these problems.
White Otter also provides all its clients with a packet of information with guidelines on minimum impact techniques and procedures to minimize a trip's impact for other river travelers. With the increase in river use we feel it is very important to respect the right of others for the best possible wilderness experience.

WHITE OTTER HAS THE EXPERIENCE
The management of WHITE OTTER has over 29 years experience in the outfitting business and has run multi-day trips all over the U.S. and Canada. We have been outfitting in Idaho on the Snake and Salmon rivers for 20 years. We want you to have a great river trip, please feel free to ask us any question about any part of your trip.

EQUIPMENT
Our river equipment is the finest available. We feature Riken rafts with self-bailing floors in lengths from 13 to 18 ft. The quality of our gear is equal to any commercial outfitter. Our frames, dryboxes, coolers, firepans, etc. are the best available. We have most any items that you might need. We have Perception kayaks and Riken self bailing inflatable kayaks for rent. We have two varieties of porta-potties available for rent that meet the current Forest Service regulations.

FOOD
While we are no longer doing food packing ourselves, we are working with a food packing service to help our clients, call Mystic Saddle Ranch at 888 722-5432. You can check out their menu page at http://mysticsaddleranch.com/information/Private_Boater_Menus.htm They have years of experience and provide the highest quality of service. Groups using both our services will have seamless coordination.

LOGISTICS
The details and problems of transportation can be time consuming and expensive. Let us help you arrange your group, equipment and vehicle shuttles. A day spent driving is one that could be spent on the river. We refer all shuttles to River Shuttles (formerly River Rat) (800 831-8942) rivershuttles.com and Sawtooth Transportation (1 208 774-2323) sawtoothtrans.com and work closely with them if groups can not pick up and drop off the equipment at our headquarters.
For those who want to learn more about the intricate parts of trip planning or just need a refresher, we recommend an excellent resource: River Otter: Handbook for Trip Planning by Maria Eschen, available at www.anotterpress.com.

TIME LINE

  1. The information here is all that is needed to start the process.

  2. Review the material available here on line and decide what equipment you wish to use. Upon receipt of your gear rental form and boat deposit, we will reserve the boats and equipment you request.

  3. We require full payment in full 30 days prior to launch for equipment.

LOGISTICS

We prefer for all groups to come by our Sunbeam headquarters so we can go over the gear with our clients and make any last minute adjustments.

  1. For those who have their own vehicles and trailer to transport gear, equipment can be picked up at our headquarters at Sunbeam, 13 miles from Stanley.

  2. We can arrange with River Shuttles to have the gear taken in to Boundary Creek. Check with River Shuttles for this expense.

  3. We can arrange with River Shuttles to have equipment brought back to us if you are not coming back through Stanley at the end of the trip. There will be an additional cost through River Shuttles for this service.

  4. If you rent 4+ rafts we can meet your group at Boundary Creek with the gear and help you with all aspects of rigging. There is no cost for this service.

  5. For low water or late season trips, we can meet you at the Stanley Airport or arrange with one of the flying services to transport your gear to the Indian Creek landing strip.
